The Minnesota Twins just trimmed three non-roster position players from their major league camp, sending them to minor league camp as Grapefruit League action winds down. Six games remain before the team breaks for the regular season.
The off-day on March 18 gave everyone a quick breather in camp. Minnesota’s still evaluating depth, especially in the outfield and infield.
None of the reassigned players have made their MLB debut yet. Each one, though, has a solid minor-league track record and stays on the radar for future call-ups.
Grapefruit League context and roster churn
As the Twins reach the final stretch of spring training, depth is still a big talking point. The club’s juggling chances for the last couple of bench spots and getting good looks at some of the up-and-comers in the minors.
Trades, injuries, or just spring performance can shake up who makes the Opening Day roster. Sometimes, it just comes down to who gets hot at the right time.
Player-by-player notes on the reassigned trio
Here’s a quick look at the three non-roster guys sent down from major league camp to minor league camp. A little on how they did this spring and where they fit in the organization right now.
Kala’i Rosario — outfielder
- Age: 23
- Draft status: Fifth-round pick in the 2020 draft
- Last season: Double-A Wichita
- Spring training notes: .333 average (5-for-15) with a home run, four RBIs, three walks, and seven strikeouts
- Position versatility: Primarily outfield, with possible corner-infield in the future
- Current role: Strong minor-league numbers keep him in the mix for a call-up if an outfield spot opens
Rosario’s spring line shows he can handle decent pitching and drive in runs when he gets the chance. He brings some speed and pretty sharp instincts in the field—maybe not elite, but you notice it. If he closes spring on a high note, he might force his way into a longer look later this season.
Kyler Fedko — outfielder/first baseman
- Age: 26
- Draft status: Joined the organization after signing, with experience at outfield and first base
- Last season: Split between Double-A and Triple-A
- Spring training notes: 3-for-23 with two walks and eight strikeouts
- Position versatility: Outfield and first base, so he could fill a bench role if needed
- Current role: Depth option; spring struggles might affect his minor league assignment
Fedko brings some flexibility on defense and could offer a left-handed bat off the bench. His spring at the plate wasn’t great—let’s be honest—but the Twins will keep an eye out for any adjustments or signs that he’s making progress with his approach as he heads back to minor league camp.
Tanner Schobel — infielder
- Age: 24
- Draft status: No. 68 overall pick in 2022
- Last season: Reached Triple-A St. Paul
- Spring training notes: 2-for-15 with a homer, three RBIs, three walks and five strikeouts
- Position versatility: Infield depth with potential to handle multiple spots
- Current role: A developmental piece in the minors who could push for higher call-ups with continued progress
Schobel has shown power and patience in his pro career. That spring homer and his walk rate hint at a power-speed blend that might play at the highest level.
If he keeps refining his swing decisions and cleans up defense at the infield corners, he could get a real shot.
The Twins now have 21 position players remaining in camp, including two non-roster catchers and two non-roster infielders.
This reshuffling preserves depth and lets minor league prospects get extra reps before the season starts.
The club will keep an eye on how these players handle the shift in competition. It’s always interesting to see what that signals for Opening Day decisions.
