Dodgers’ NL West Lead Shrinks to 1 After Glasnow Start

Saturday night in Phoenix turned out to be a rough one for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ace right-hander Tyler Glasnow threw a gem, but the Dodgers fell 6-1 to the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The offense just wasn’t there. Defensive mistakes and missed chances made things even worse.

Glasnow looked fantastic out there. He allowed only one hit through six innings and struck out six over seven frames.

His ERA sits at a sharp 2.45, but he hasn’t picked up a win since March 31. The bats just don’t seem to show up when he pitches.

Glasnow Shines, but the Dodgers Fall Short

The Dodgers have been shut out in four of Glasnow’s 13 starts. That’s wild for a team with this much firepower.

With a 1-3 record, Glasnow’s been left hanging by the lineup too many times. Saturday night was another example.

Offensive Struggles Against an Unexpected Source

To make things more irritating, the Dodgers couldn’t figure out a pitcher who’s been struggling. Arizona’s Eduardo Rodriguez came in with a 5.67 ERA and still held L.A. to just two hits in the first four innings.

A Costly Missed Opportunity

The fifth inning could’ve changed everything. Kiké Hernández had a chance at home but didn’t slide, and after a video review, the inning ended on a double play.

That one stung. It was just the start of a night filled with missed execution.

Defensive Miscues Prove Costly

If the bats were cold, the gloves weren’t much better. The Dodgers made two fielding errors and got two runners thrown out on the bases.

Manager Dave Roberts called the performance “unrecognizable.” He wasn’t wrong.

The Game Unravels in the Seventh

Glasnow’s shutout ended when Corbin Carroll hit a solo homer to right in the seventh. Things spiraled after that.

A misplay in center and another in right let Arizona put up three runs that inning. Suddenly, the game was out of reach.

A Lone Run, Then the Door Closes

The Dodgers finally got on the board in the seventh with an RBI single from Mookie Betts. That was it for the offense, though.

They finished just 1-for-8 with runners in scoring position. Arizona piled on three more runs in the ninth off Kirby Yates, including a 423-foot homer from Ildemaro Vargas.

Final Score: Diamondbacks 6, Dodgers 1

Looking Ahead: Rotation Changes and Reinforcements

There’s at least a bit of good news coming. The Dodgers will skip Emmet Sheehan’s spot in the rotation and go with veterans Clayton Kershaw and Shohei Ohtani on the next road trip.

In the bullpen, Michael Kopech could be activated soon. Kyle Hurt is also getting close to returning.

Can the Dodgers Bounce Back?

That loss to Arizona stung. Still, the Dodgers sit near the top of the National League standings.

If they clean up those defensive lapses and take advantage of scoring chances, they should stay up there. Strong starting pitching helps, but Tyler Glasnow really needs more run support—he hasn’t gotten much so far this year.

It’s a long season. One rough night shouldn’t define this team, but you know Dave Roberts wants to forget that game as soon as possible.
