MLB The Show 26 Opening Day: New Threads, Free Gift

MLB The Show 26 is rolling out its Opening Day content, and there’s a lot for players to chew on. There’s a robust lineup of program-driven rewards, a big focus on roster movement with New Threads, and some new challenges that reward players for building authentic lineups.

Opening Day Content Overview

The Opening Day push is aiming to keep players engaged across multiple modes. You’ll see everything from traditional collection goals to live-event style play.

There’s a mix of free and paid bundles, limited-time events, and constant updates to keep people coming back through those first few weeks.

Some standout features: a New Threads program that highlights players on new teams, a Mini Seasons challenge that mirrors real-world rosters, and a tiered pack system loaded with high-OVR cards and unique cosmetics.

This whole setup is meant to help you boost collection progress, rack up Moments and Missions, and snag Bonus PXP—all feeding into your 2026 progression.

New Threads Series and New Threads Program

The New Threads content is all about players who’ve recently switched teams. You’ll get in-game rewards for hitting collection milestones.

Beyond those milestone cards, the New Threads Program hands out a Deluxe New Threads Series Pack and a handful of player rewards. Some of the names include Devin Williams (87 OVR), Brandon Lowe (87 OVR), Ranger Suarez (88 OVR), Dylan Cease (89 OVR), and Pete Alonso (90 OVR).

These cards are going to add some real depth for battleground matchups and help you round out collections.

One thing to remember: New Threads players count toward Moments, Missions (including Bonus PXP), and overall collection progress in 2026. So, if you’re grinding for the long haul or just playing daily, these objectives actually matter.

New Threads Mini Seasons Challenge

Mini Seasons mode asks you to build squads that look like real-world rosters and test them in different formats. You can go for short-form 3/9-inning games or dive into longer 7/28-game seasons.

The rewards scale up with your wins and how accurate your roster building is.

This challenge gives fans a way to experiment with lineups and synergy—something a bit different from standard Play mode.

Opening Day Event and Rewards

The Opening Day Event lets you rack up repeatable rewards by winning with teams built from specific player tiers. As you progress, Missions move the Opening Day Event Program closer to Freddy Peralta (89 OVR), and you’ll also unlock Deluxe and Premiere New Threads Packs.

Packs in the Show Shop: Deluxe, Premiere, Ultra

The Show Shop is running a tiered system for New Threads packs. Each tier has different guarantees and odds, but the Ultra Pack stands out with a guaranteed haul from a curated pool and really strong odds.

On top of that, a free Launch Bundle drops March 26 in the Show Shop. You get 10 The Show Packs and a console-specific Dragon bat skin.

Paid options? There’s The Show 50-Pack Bundles, and those come with a shot at a Chase Pack 3 (Ted Williams, 92 OVR).

March 27 Additions and Ongoing Updates

March 27 brings Chase Pack 3, Challenge of the Week 3, and the first roster update focused on Transactions. The team plans to roll out weekly transaction updates.

They’ll also push out Attributes Updates every 3–5 weeks. The first one’s coming on Friday, May 8.
