Alongside Lugo, the Royals also picked up right-handed pitcher Beck Way. He’s another young arm who could shake things up for the pitching staff soon.

Way is 26 and came into pro ball as a Yankees fourth-rounder in 2020. He ended up in Kansas City as part of the 2022 Andrew Benintendi deal.

He started out as a starter but has shifted toward relief work. His minor league journey’s been a bit of a mixed bag, honestly.

In 2026, Way put up a 4.50 ERA across 30 innings. But if you look under the hood, there’s more to the story.

His 3.22 FIP suggests he’s actually pitched better than his ERA shows. He’s striking out 32.6% of hitters and getting grounders half the time, which is pretty promising.

Velocity-wise, his four-seamer and sinker are both flirting with the upper-90s. That’s always fun.
